Let's engage students in reflection and dialogue of the books they are reading during the next few months. This blog forum not only provides students a voice but encourages peers to provide constructive/descriptive feedback, making further connections to their reading experiences and asking questions along the way. Students write about what they are reading and include reading strategies such as inferencing, making connections, summarizing and/or evaluating the text.

History, mystery, and science collide in a new series for middle-grade readers, perfect for fans of The Mysterious Benedict Society and Lemony Snicket!
Jordan Stratford imagines an alternate 1826, where Ada Lovelace (the world’s first computer programmer) and Mary Shelley (author of Frankenstein) meet as girls and form a secret detective agency!
Lady Ada Byron, age eleven, is a genius. Isolated, awkward and a bit rude—but a genius. Mary Godwin, age fourteen, is a romantic. Adventurous, astute, and kind, Mary is to become Ada’s first true friend. And together, the girls conspire to form the Wollstonecraft Detective Agency—a secret constabulary for the apprehension of clever criminals. Their first case involves a stolen heirloom, a false confession, and an array of fishy suspects. But it’s no match for the deductive powers and bold hearts of Ada and Mary.
Mystery fans will love this tween girl riff on Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. History buffs will be delighted to see all the real figures who play a role in this story and appreciate the extensive backmatter that helps separate truth from fiction. Parents and educators hoping to promote the STEM fields for girls will be thrilled to have a series where two girls use math, science, and creative analytical thinking to solve crimes. But most especially--emerging readers will love this series filled with humor, action, intrigue and wonderful artwork from Kelly Murphy.

I think that this book was pretty good, because it used real people from history. It had a very typical plot and problem though so it was not as interesting as it could have been (I think). It also lost me for a bit at first, but I got the hang of it later. I don't know if I completely liked the plot because it was very short and took half of the book to get to the problem.

I did not really like this book, because it was a little boring and it was kind of hard for me to read. But some parts of the book were good.

The Wollstonecraft detective agency was a very well written book. It was descriptive and had many cliffhangers, Ada and Marie go on many minnie adventures and descover a new clew every step of the way. With two completely different personalities they become the best of friends and try to find the missing acorn necklace. This book was a great mystery and was a fantastic read, with a bit of adventure and a chunk or mystery this book is truly fantastic. -Sophia

ReplyDeleteI think that the Wollstonecraft detective agency was a good read. Even if it wasn't my favorite book, I still liked it, because I enjoy stories set in the past, and I like how different the two girls were, but how they got along quite well. Also, I liked how in the end, there was a big plot twist, and it made the story much more exciting. In all, I would recommend this book to people who like sweet, lovable stories, that have a mystery.

I liked this book. I was comme ci comme ca or so so about it. I liked that the main characters were intelligent females, and that it was set in the past. The thing that I was not so keen on was that the story took a long time to set up, but other than that I loved the mystery!! read it!!
ReplyDeleteThis book was very interesting, it took place in the past which I always enjoy and the personalities of the characters were odd but amusing. It was an amazing read, it had many plot twists and took you in dufferent directions in every chapter. I also enjoyed how it was written from different perspectives. In the end this book is great and hopefully you enjoy this as much as I did.

DeleteI liked this book a lot, it was one of my favourites! The Wollstonecraft Detective Agency is 2 famous females. They meet up in a fiction book and become best friends. I think it was kind of slow to start but other than that, I LOVED this book! :) Sara
ReplyDeleteI did not like this book. Fo me it was too slow and a bit too descriptive. It made me wonder if the author was thinking about the book or just their surroundings.

This book is very well written and hilarious. It depicts realistic child behavior, as well as a genius behavior sneaking in. This book is suspenseful, but lets you in on the surprise before you get bored. It was very descriptive, and maybe a little TOO descriptive at times, but otherwise, it was a great book.

DeleteI disagree with Hugo because, I find that the more descriptive the book the better so then it doesn't leave you hanging.I also disagree with people who say this book is horrible, because you just have to understand it to like it.

I thought this book was really good but I kind of new who was the culprit because they made it to obvious and I think that was a bad idea, but over all I liked the book and I recommend it.
