People overcome impossible odds where others surrendered and failed.

What would you do if you were stranded or trapped in a situation where you had to fight for your life? When the Worst Happens is a collection of intense, true stories set in distant corners of the earth.

In extreme situations such as these, people can pull together, show almost super-human skill, and survive. But sometimes they face madness, greed or mutiny. These action-packed accounts reveal the critical decisions that determined the fate of each victim.

In an attempt to answer the question why people react the way they do in extreme circumstances, When the Worst Happens also looks at modern psychological studies, interesting historical details and settings, as well as seemingly unrelated events, to discover what draws the line between success and tragedy.

This book was good, but it was a bit confusing because it kept on splitting up the stories parts so you had to turn pages a lot. I think this was meant to give you cliffhangers, but all it did was make it more difficult to read.

  2. I really liked "When the Worst Happens", although some of the stories were very sad. I liked how it explained what to do in their situation, what the characters did well, and what they should have done better. I think that the writer ,Tanya Lloyd KYI, could have made the book easier to read by not splitting up the stories, because it made the stories harder to follow. In all, I think that this is a good book, and is one of my favorite non-fiction silver birch stories.

I really liked this book, but it was kind of annoying that the main stories were all over the place so you had to either wait to get there or keep flipping pages. It made the book sort of confusing but other than that, it was pretty good!

This was a great book! I loved the story's. There was many cliffhangers but was very confusing because you had to keep flipping through pages to read the rest of the story's. I really liked how the author made the stories short and easy to understand what was happening.
